Our 5th annual Summit was on March 13 and 14th, 2023 in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. The Mobile Market Summit is a convening built for those operating or planning to open mobile produce markets, as well as researchers, funders, and supporters of mobile market work. Light breakfast, lunch and snacks was provided by the UNC Friday Center each day.

Courtyard by Marriott Chapel Hill is the recommended hotel for our event and is located .3 miles from the Summit space.

Travel
The closest airport is Raleigh Durham International Airport (RDU). Options to get to the venue and lodging include:
Taking a Taxi – Call (919) 333-3333 for any airport-related taxi needs. Walk-up taxi service is available at both terminals in the taxi zones.
Uber/Lyft - Request an Uber or Lyft ride to pick you up. A ride can be scheduled ahead of time or called upon arrival. If you plan to request a ride when you arrive, we recommend creating an account with Uber/Lyft beforehand and downloading the app.
GoTriangle - This is the public transportation system in the Research Triangle in North Carolina. The link takes you to a trip planner where you can put in any origin and destination address and it will provide an itinerary using the NC public transit system.
Follow the directions below or download/print the itinerary to get from the Raleigh Durham airport to the Friday Center.
- Head to Terminal 2 Zone 6 in the RDU airport
- Take the bus at this location to the GoTriangle Transit Center (RTC) & RTP Connect
- Take Bus Line 800 to Chapel Hill via Southpoint
- The Friday Center is an 8 minute walk from this destination

Keynote Address:
On Innovation, Creativity, and Thinking Big: Design thinking habits and the massive complexity of community food security.
How might the ideas behind design thinking foster the game-changing food access impact our communities need? Community food programs of any size struggle with competing pressures and difficulty staying balanced, accountable, and impactful. Starting from a place of empathy, this presentation hopes to inspire and empower with stories and strategies centered on a human-centered, values-based approach to changemaking.
Biography:
A native of North Carolina, Erin White is a designer, entrepreneur, and teacher working for healthy food systems. From 2012 to 2022 he led Community Food Lab - a creative practice asking what it means to design for the complicated territory of food systems. Methods for designing a future food system included street-level participatory installations, envisioning radical shifts in city-region food economies, and supporting projects from community farms and food hubs to urban agriculture policy and food security plans. In Fall of 2022 he transitioned back to school at NC State University as a PhD student in Design and instructor in design thinking and architecture, where he plans to continue research into the ways design thinking and resilient food systems intersect. He co-founded a food council for Wake County, NC, started a garden meet-up in his neighborhood, and habitually takes on too many carpentry projects.
