Devita Davison Executive Director FoodLab Detroit A native of Detroit and daughter of a preacher, Devita lived almost 19 years in New York before moving back to her hometown in 2012. For her, words are not just letters strung together; they are vessels for love and fight, heart ache, wisdom, and profound joy. To say she wears her heart on her sleeve doesn't feel adequate; whether decrying from the TED stage injustices in the food system or expounding on the beauty of a ripe strawberry in summer, her passion for this work is palpable. With fiery talk, wide-open arms, and an insatiable appetite for reading the latest in food justice and innovation, Devita propels the growth of FoodLab Detroit to create a food system truly equitable, sustainable, cooperative and community driven. The Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus has generously sponsored Ms. Davison's keynote address and follow-up session to be free and open to the general public. Sean C. Lucan, MD, MPH, MS Associate Professor Department of Family and Social Medicine Albert Einstein College of Medicine Montefiore Health System Dr. Sean Lucan is a practicing family physician in the Bronx, NY. He is also an award-winning NIH-funded investigator, who has published numerous peer-reviewed articles and thought pieces on food-related issues. Additionally, he has co-authored one textbook on nutrition and another on biostatistics, epidemiology, preventive medicine, and public health. Dr. Lucan earned his MD and MPH degrees at Yale before completing residency training in Family Medicine and Community Health at the University of Pennsylvania. After residency, he completed a fellowship in the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Clinical Scholars Program, where he earned an MS in Health Policy Research. Dr. Lucan was also a fellow at the National Academy of Medicine (formerly Institute of Medicine). He is currently a member of the research faculty in the Department of Family and Social Medicine at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Montefiore Health System. A focus of Dr. Lucan's research is how different aspects of urban food environments may influence what people eat, and what the implications are for obesity and chronic diseases, particularly in low-income and minority communities. Another focus of his work is the critical examination of clinical guidance and public health initiatives related to nutrition. Dr. Lucan's keynote address is sponsored by the Center for Ingestive Behavior Research at the University at Buffalo, and all UB faculty, staff, and students are invited to attend.
